Friends of Mother Earth Adventures (Back to top)

These links are to organizations run by good friends of mine and whose work resonates strongly with the work of Mother Earth Adventures even though the content may be different. I have either attended workshops sponsored by these people and/or personally know the work that they do. I value all of their friendships and they have all had a remarkable impact on my personal journey.

Tony Duea of San Diego Programming has donated this web space to Mother Earth Adventures to allow us to maintain our website. We are very grateful to him. Tony provides programming of all types, including web, database, and application development.

Comfort Queen

This web site is written by author and lecturer Jennifer Louden. It’s "advertised" for women, but I have found such wisdom in it that I recommend it to all; the same with her books.

Rainbow Adventures
Terry Gustafson is the outfitter who coordinates the Buddhist backpacks I attend. He has information about Eric Kolvig who is the Dharma teacher who spiritually guides the backpacks. They also lead other wonderful backpacks. "Our destinations are often rugged, little-known areas not described in guidebooks, where we have worked out intriguing routes bit-by-bit on personal hikes in the past. We also offer a few easier backpacks to better-known places, suitable for beginning backpackers. We like the informal, cooperative style of trip pioneered by the Sierra Club. Food, cooking equipment and group gear are provided. You bring your own backpack, sleeping bag, and lightweight tent or bivy bag, and a cup, bowl and spoon. The menu is basically vegetarian, with some meat for those who want it. We help drivers and riders find each other to carpool."

Northwaters Canada
David Knudson was one of the leaders my first vision quest and my spiritual canoe journey. Two of my daughters have also participated in their outstanding programs. "We believe in teaching people how to be with the land, the water and the sky, how to be with one another, and ultimately how to be with themselves. We see our canoe trips as an excellent metaphor for life's journey and representing an important rite of passage into adulthood. While the experience is challenging, it is not about conquering rivers or mountains. Emphasis is rather upon learning from the land in a spirit of balance and respect. We find that people return to Northwaters because it represents a unique blend of adventure and personal growth in a highly supportive environment."

Ed Gray Studio
Ed Gray is an extremely talented Native American artist who offers wonderful art making workshops with a spiritual dimension.

Studio Pardes
Pat Allen has developed a wonderful process which allows your art work to help you know your inner self. Her workshops are delightful. Her mission is "to awaken individuals and communities to the creative energy that lies within them and to provide them with the tools to access this power for inquiry, transformation, and celebration."

SHEM Center
Joe Kilikevice leads great retreats and I highly recommend them to you. "SHEM Center for Interfaith Spirituality is a place where the sojourners of all spiritual paths and faith traditions, as well as the spiritually homeless, are welcomed. SHEM Center provides a sacred space where the prayer, meditation, rituals and wisdom of the peoples of the world can be experienced and reflected upon. SHEM Center honors and embraces the truth as it appears in the teachings of all faith traditions".

Tracker School
Although Tom Brown Jr. is not a good friend I was privileged to take his Basic course and I’ve read most of his books. His course was transformative and had a major influence on me. I would highly recommend any of his courses and his books. His website states: "if you are looking for a closer attachment to Earth Mother and the skills and philosophy that will help you live in harmony and balance with Creation, then come join us. I believe that to be "one" with the Earth, it is not enough to just have good survival skills but a more rounded philosophy and skill level. That is why each of my courses cover equally the three major categories of survival: tracking, nature awareness, and the ancient philosophy of the Earth".

Eagle Man
Ed McGaa too is not a good friend but I participated in a sweat of his and it was one of the events that empowered me to start Mother Earth Adventures. He is a delightful teacher and his books are outstanding. His website says: "Mixing natural spirituality, a belief that humanity is rooted in a living, feeling earth, and an awareness of scientific ecological principles, Eagle Man draws on centuries of Native American wisdom to offer practices and ceremonies that reestablish a nurturing relationship with nature."

Drumming For Peace
Michael Suess has fire tended with Mother Earth Adventures and offers Firewalks and Drumming Circles. He states that he drums to "reconnect to the rhythm of life, we recall our mother's heartbeat ...our first harmony in this life. We drum as a group and practice our own rhythm while maintaining a relationship with someone in a different rhythm.Drumming creates understanding without the constraints of language. Drumming may begin with a feeling of chaos but through community and energy the harmonic rhythm is found and formed.
Why Drumming for Peace?
In a world so full of troubles and differing beliefs we often feel unable to make a difference; but we are compelled to do something. Drumming gives every one of us a meaningful part in Peace and Healing! Not only does it affect your personal well being but also sends out vibrations towards the whole world. The more we do this, the more effect it has on everything. You know how contagious a smile can be. Drumming sends out waves of smiles."
